Qualities

You use qualities to represent anything that is modelled numerically. In hard rock mining, the qualities are the grades of the minerals in the deposit. In industrial mineral mining, coal, and other soft rock mining, the qualities are the numerically defined rock characteristics of the deposit.

Note: Setting up qualities is optional, but it is unusual to produce a schedule with no qualities defined.

Columns in the Qualities Data Grid

Column Description

Name

The name for the quality.

The quality name can be the same as the name of the Attribute in <model>.

Note: Quality names are case-sensitive.

Weight by

The method used to combine block values for reporting. Options are:

  • Volume: The values are weighted by volume.
  • Mass: The values are weighted by mass.
  • Length: The values are weighted by the length. For example, if you choose to Report by Aggregate, and weight by Length for an attribute that contains the number of rockbolts per metre, you can see the number of rockbolts required in your headings in the reports.
  • Note: Length applies to only CSV models, and gives a sensible result only if you choose to Report by Aggregate.

  • None: The values are not weighted.
  • Note: You are only able to weight by None if you choose to Report by Aggregate. If you choose to Report by Average and weight by None, the values are still weighted by Volume.

CautionCaution: Calculation errors can occur when you choose to Report by Aggregate and weight by None. The errors occur because, when dynamic sub-blocking or super-blocking occurs in the model, calculated attributes that use the block extents to calculate volume produce inaccurate results. The solution is to weight the attributes by Volume or Mass, instead of creating calculated attributes that incorporate the block volume.

Note: The Weight by column is closely tied to the Report column. You should select the Report method first and then determine the appropriate Weight by method.

Report

The method used to calculate the qualities during scheduling for reports. The options are:

  • Average: The values are weight averaged.
  • Aggregate: The values are weighted and summed.
Decimal places

The number of decimal places used when storing the quality values in the scheduling model string files.

The default value is three. The minimum number of decimal places is zero and the maximum number of decimal places is six.

Attribute in <model>

The attribute name, description field, or quality grid code that describes the location of the quality.

If the model is associated with only fill locations, you can leave this column blank. For all other models you must complete this column.

Note: If the Partial Attribute is used in the Material classes data grid, MineSched looks for the Attribute in <model> with the <material> part of the Partial Attribute name appended as either a suffix or prefix, depending on the settings selected on the Partial Attribute Naming Convention form.

Comments Any notes you want to make about the quality.
